Did you know that you could save yourself a ton in money if you were to visit an esthetician monthly or seasonally for your skin concerns?
An esthetician you say? I know, I know, we have been conditioned to believe that seeing an esthetician or going to the spa is a place of luxury where rich women go to sip champagne while being pampered. That may have been somewhat true over 20 years ago, but the industry has made a significant shift over the last 10 years where the focus is now on skin health, as products and gadgets are now easily accessible to consumers.
What is an esthetician and why should you see one?
An esthetician, also called a Skin Care therapist, specializes in the beautification of the skin. Unlike a Dermatologist, an esthetician cannot diagnose nor can they prescribe medications, instead they are able to perform facials, laser hair removal, superficial chemical peels, body treatments and other non-invasive skin care treatments.
Here are 5 reasons you should see an esthetician
An esthetician will thoroughly analyze your skin to determine your specific skin type and it’s needs. Knowing your skin type makes it easier to choose products that best suit your skin needs.
Estheticians are trained in products and product ingredients; therefore, you will be able to get a customized home care regimen specific to your needs.
Estheticians can perform a variety of facials using clinically tested and proven modalities to achieve the best results. Monthly facials are necessary to boost collagen, cellular turn over and keep our skin looking healthy. Estheticians are also known for treating acne, hyperpigmentation and other skin conditions using chemical peels, micro-needling as well as lasers in a safe and clean environment.
Estheticians are your trusted skincare adviser. We give advice based on our client’s lifestyle and skincare concerns. Trust that they will always answer your skin related question to the best of their ability.
How sway? Think about all the money you have spent thus far on products your friend, favourite YouTuber or Instagram skin guru suggested but did not work or you? Now imagine if you had gone to an esthetician for analysis, product suggestions and getting your skincare regimen curated just for your skin type and lifestyle?
The skincare world is a huge and overwhelming one, with new products entering the market every day. There is no need to go at it alone. There are a few black Esti’s in Toronto who are well versed in black skin. Book a consultation as they are usually free. It’ll be the best skin care decision you’ll ever make.

1. Cleans
Use warm water when cleansing your face it minimizes the chances of irritation. It can also be relaxing – a great feeling before bed.
Your facial cleanser is the base of your bedtime skincare regimen, You will want something that effectively removes everything while targeting concerns without irritating your skin.
2. Exfoliate regularly.
Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, clear pores, prevent breakouts and smoothes your skin’s texture. You can use a facial cleanser with acids or small granules, an exfoliating mask, or an exfoliating brush with your cleanser 2-3 times a week.
Just read the product label to ensure it’ll work with your skin type.
3. Use a toner.
Toners are meant to restore the skin’s pH balance after cleansing, they shrink the appearance of pores, serve as protection, and eliminate any missed debris or residue left over from your cleanser.
There are 3 types you can choose from:
After drying your face, place a few drops on a cotton round and gently wipe it across your face, neck, and chest.
4.Apply a Serum
Serums are great products, more people should start including them in their skincare routine. They’re liquidy and thin, but they pack a punch. The ingredients are highly concentrated to target specific skin issues, such as brightening and evening skin tone. Also, they usually include vitamins and nutrients to nourish your skin. Serums provide lightweight moisture and are easily absorbed. They make a great supplement to your moisturizer as it boosts hydration.
5. Moisturize.
This is one of – if not, the most – important steps in your bedtime skincare routine. And, yes, moisturizer is safe for oily skin types.
Moisturizer provides a layer of protection, prevents the skin from becoming irritated, and promotes a smooth texture.
If you have certain skin concerns, like wrinkles, nighttime is the time to address it. For example, apply your eye cream anti ageing cream and let it work its magic while you’re asleep.
You might even see a noticeable improvement the next day. Many products, like retinoids, increase your sensitivity to sunlight.
Apply these before you go to sleep, and you won’t have to worry about hiding from the sun.
6. Get the recommended amount of sleep.
It is said the average adult needs 7-9 hours of sleep a night.
While you’re sleeping, your skin repairs the damage it encountered during the day. This is one of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to achieve great skin.
We understand we all lead busy lives, balancing school, work, family, or all at once. Remember that it may take some time to make your routine a habit, and that’s okay. You don’t have to follow each tip to a T; do what works best for you.it’ll be worth it in the end. When you wake up, you’ll notice a positive difference in how your skin looks and feels.
